OUR COMPANY

Hunter Financial Services, LLC was founded by Jerry D. Hunter, CPA-managing member, in October 2019 to provide tax preparation and representation for all types of federal and state tax returns; employment-based retirement consultation; and credit restoration.  After retiring as an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agent, with over 33 years experience of examining (auditing) business, personal, employment, and fiduciary tax returns and specializing in fraud detection, I always wanted to assist business owners to thrive and also meet their financial responsibilities.  Many times, I saw where business owners had great ideas for providing a product or services but lacked the business knowledge to maintain a business that could be passed to future generations.

Some business owners do not fully understand their tax obligations beyond their tax liabilities. Some business owners also failed to participate in the retirement plans that are available, such as, SIMPLE, 401(K) or IRAs; resulting in missed opportunities and the inability to one day comfortably retire.  The last area where business owners have issues was the establishment of a good personal credit score and the effect it has on their business credit.

FOUNDER / CEO

Jerry D. Hunter is a native of Mobile, AL, born in the “Down the Bay” area.  I grew up in several Mobile neighborhoods as the youngest of 4 boys and graduated from the University of South Alabama, College of Business Administration, with a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting in December 1985.  Upon employment with the IRS as a “Internal Revenue Agent” in February 1986, I relocated to Montgomery.  Later in April 1995, I returned to the Mobile IRS field office as a Special Agent with the Criminal Investigation Division, whereas I participated in several criminal tax prosecutions and money laundering cases.  In April 1998, I returned to the civil side (Examination Division) where I examined business tax returns, high-income individuals, trust and estates, money service businesses, and participated in teaching Lexis-Nexis to the entire 3- state district.

In October 1994, I fulfilled the requirements of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination, earning my CPA certificate from the State of Alabama Board of Public Accountancy.  Upon retirement, I was also issued an Enrolled Agent designation which allows me to represent taxpayers before the IRS and state tax agencies.
